Ann is grateful my hair loss obsession has lessened.
I try not to let my outward loss of hair effect my daily life. My professional life is training employees so my appearance is important. When I'm put together (wig and makeup) I still feel confident but I find myself not being as outgoing as I had been. I have accepted the hair loss, but not satisfied with it.
About Me
About Me:
My hair loss started with a small patch Aug 2007, and increased to large areas above my ears and then all over my head. I started wearing a wig in Oct 2007, and unless I tell someone that I am wearing a wig they do not know. My husband is very supportive as well as my adult children. With 7/8 of hair gone Dec 2007, I shaved it so that wearing the wig was easier. Any remaining hair fel out by end of Jan 08. I haven't shaved armpits-legs in months now, so showering is a breeze! I've lost 3/4 of my eye brows which is causing me concern, as I realize my eye lashes may be next! I have always worn makeup; it is an important part of my "look", makes me feel better so loosing my eyelashes would cause me great angst. Medication: My endocrinologist started thyroid therapy in Nov 2007, along with Evista. May 2008 he started lowering my testostrome to see if that would "make hair" As of June 2008, no new hair growth...none.
Oooh Ann, I am so excited for you to go on your trip. I am going to tour New Mexico for 12 days in September. Please let me know if there is anything that really catches your eye in Santa Fe.
Hi Ann, I tried emailing you instead of posting a comment, but can't figure out how to do that! I bit the bullet last night and shaved my head! It felt SO LIBERATING! And while I look like a molting dog, I actually think it's better than the long thin bits I had trying to cover the problem. I was feeling a bit like bozo the clown with a comb-over! I didn't go all the way to the scalp and left the razor at the longest setting I could, so have about an inch of length where there is hair. It's amazing how much more comfortable my baseball cap is, so I imagine this was a good move for the wig to come too. That's really why I'm writing you - I have another appt. tomorrow to try to get the color right. That seems to have been my biggest challenge so far. I'm definitely going with the Raquel Welch mono cap - Lustre style, but I'm wondering about wearing it while cooking. I have 2 preschoolers and spend a lot of time in the kitchen. I also like to entertain and enjoy cooking - until we moved 2 months ago, I hosted all the family holidays and get togethers! I've read that you have to be REALLY careful with opening an oven or being near boiling water (steam) while wearing the synthetic wig. While I figure this is no big deal on a daily basis - I'll just take it off when I'm cooking - I'm wondering what to do when entertaining. Do you have any advice from your own experience? Thanks! - Shar
Hi Ann, You look amazing! I am in the process of shopping for my first wig (more info on my profile and first ever blog entry!) and was wondering how you like your monofilament. Is it synthetic or human hair? Everyone I've asked so far has recommended human hair hands down, but the salon I've gone to won't even deal with human hair wigs anymore. My first try-on was Friday and I really liked the monofilament caps over the others I tried and think I may have found "the one", but also don't want to jump on the first one that looks good. I go back tomorrow for another try on and will go armed with digital camera so I can have my husband and best friend weigh in since neither can go to the salon with me. The hardest part for me after only the first shopping trip is the color and I hate that you're commited before trying on the actual wig in the actual color you want. I'm not good at visualizing things - I'm a very visual learner, so this is a stretch for me. I'm rambling, but would love to hear any advice you have to offer. THANK YOU!!! - Shar
I do not wear a wig but have been thinking I should get one to be prepared for the day I wake up and can not hide my hair loss any longer. It really is painful for me to deal with this. I am okay but would really like not to worry about hiding it anymore. You look so great in this wig. Let me know when you get Amy presence- which one you got and pictures. Love your sharing. It really helps. thank you soooo much.
