About Me:

My name is Julia and I use to have a head of hair that would've made Diana Ross jealous! I was diagnosed with androgenic alopecia over a year ago. When I was first diagnosed the assumption was that my hair loss was secondary to a hormonal imbalance. I was hopeful that I would respond well to treatment and that my hair loss would be reversed. Since then, despite an androgen level that is now within normal limits, and a regimen of spironolactone, finasteride, Rogaine, and HRT; my hair continues to thin and fall out. Initially, I struggled with the psychological impact of being a woman who faced overall thinning and gradual hair loss. I cried over the frustration of having to reinvent hair styles and styling techniques in order to hide my balding. When this gave way to wearing hats and bandannas most of the time (In California summer heat!) I decided that I was through with mourning the loss of my hair. I immediately decided to take control of the situation, bought a fancy set of clippers, and had my husband buzz it all away! That was almost 6 months ago. Since then I have empowered myself by educating those around me about the different types of alopecia that both women and men experience.
