Hi Shanlaree. I haven't been logged in in quite some time. We have had lots of baseball games and I'm the director of Vacation Bible School in July, so I've been busy working on that, too. We finally have a few free nights...

Hi Shanlaree. I do have Dr. Redmond's book. I got it as soon as I saw him on TV in August 2006. I have been taking my book to my ARNP and telling her the meds I wanted - orthotricyclen and spironolactone. I insisted she give me a h...

I'm sorry - $700! That's disappointing. I don't think I'd spend that either, especially after reading his book. I'm already on orthotricyclen and sprironolactone, so I don't know if he'd prescribe anyth...

Hi Kim,

My sister picked up his book and she is reading it and then will pass it to me. She is getting some blood work done that he suggested, good to rule out things like PCOS etc. How did you see him on TV?
Was he on a talk show or something? I was told to take Yasmin and Spiro (now taking 100mg a day) and Rogaine but I think I will stop the Rogaine - for me I have not seen a big improvement with it.

I am having a shed so am having a hard time being extra positive but I am trying. I am wearing a hat now with a braid off to the side. My bangs and side seem really thin and not it seems to be spreading to the top more then before. Errr. Well have a great week and feel free to check back in soon.

Hi Kim,

I am fairly new to the network and saw the picture of your boys. Very cute!

I will be 31 onWed. and I feel too young for this to be happening to. Although now I see that hair loss has no age limitations. I am going through a major shedding phase right now. My mom reminds me that I do this every spring, which is true. This year seems a little more "real" since I have been told I have female pattern hair loss. This morning was horrible when I showered. It seemed to continue to come out the more brushed. My husband doesn't think it is any worse than normal... "you've always had hair falling out everywhere."

I was put on Sprionolactone at the beginning of April and I had a reaction to it... I itched and had hives on my hands and feet. The Dr. thought it was weird, but she didn't tell me I was crazy. She suggested finasteride. I came home and researched it alittle and it scares me to death to think about it. I didn't get it filled, I wanted to think about it over the weekend. There are some serious side effects and the fact that it says a woman shouldn't touch the pill concerns me. I talked to a pharmacist who said in 20 years, she had only filled that for a woman once. I don't know the best answer.

Just wanted to say hi. Thanks!

My sister picked up Dr. Redmond's book and we hope to find it useful - will let you know. perhaps you can pick it up from Amazon.com. My derm appointment was with Dr. Roberts and she has close to the same views on hair loss as what I have heard that Dr. redmond has. She was spendy to but my insurance cover

Hi Kim,
I just waned to keep you updated. I called Dr Redmond's office to inquire about a consultation and found out it was $700 for the initial consultation, needless to say I won't be making an appt anytime soon. Hope you are having better luck than me. N

Hi Kim,

You may want to do a Google search on Dr. Redmond. He has some good Questions and Answers posted on his website. I heard he takes calls to and may even do appointments over the phone. He is suppose to be really goo with Women's hair loss. I see posts of his name a lot. If you chat with him let me know how it goes.

Best.

Hi,
I wish I had some good resources for you. I recently went to a derm in Nov and she took two biopsies of my scalp. two weeks later lab said I had female Pattern hair loss and she said to take rogaine 5% and spironolactone. I take 1/2 of what she told me too because it makes me feel dizzy and tired and am scared to take a higher dose. So. I am 33 and have two sweet boys as well, my husband is supportive. I though quit my job feeling scared of what would happen to me so wanted to get a hold of me and that is when I found this community. I know am assisting my husband with his business so at least I feel useful this way. If I can be of help feel free to contact me. Don't give up hope- keep hanging on there and I would post this last post on your blog so other's can contact you about it. You just sent it to me.
Best,

Shanlaree

Can anyone tell my how to find a doctor who knows anything about women's hair loss? Over two years ago I went to a dermatologist. My derm wouldn't even see me because hair loss isn't covered by insurance. I saw her co-worker instead who just did a pull test, asked if my grandpas or dad had hair loss, told me it was hereditary, there was nothing that could be done, and sent me on my way. I was so disappointed. I then saw Geoffrey Redmond on the Today show in August 2006. I got his book and really thought it explained my problems. I took my book to my ARNP that has studied hormone issues and told her the meds I wanted to be on. I went back on the pill back then and after continuous shedding this past summer talked her into prescribing spironolactone for me. I've been on that since August 2007, with a gradual increase in dosage since she thought it would lower my already low blood pressure, and am now taking 150 mg daily. I've seen a lot of shedding again now in the past two to three weeks. I don't have any bald spots, it's not really worse on top, just less and less hair everywhere. It's getting really thin now and I'm freaking out. I would really like to find a doctor who know ANYTHING that could possibly help me. What is the cause of my hair loss? Should I see a dermatologist or an endocrinologist? How do I find someone who has some knowledge? I e-mailed the AHLA from the link on this site last weekend, but they have not responded. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks, everyone. . .

Your boys are soo adorable. I love the pic you shared here. My boys are my life and help me when I feel sorry for myself about my hair. there my reminder that life is about the journey and not about my hair on my head. That I can choose to be happy and find happiness though something( some days are really tough though). Welcome to the site and anytime you want to chat, would be happy to.
