Hi Mandi, how are you? Did you get the derm match yet? I hope it works for you. I went to the derm. for a follow up on Thursday. She gave me a prescription for antibiotics because of the red itchy bumps on my scalp. She noticed some hair coming in the back. I have also quite smoking and drinking as she said that it is making my itchy red scalp itchier and redder. She also doesn't want to give me anymore steroid injections. It does make my hair grow, but my skin sinks down where the shots are given. Oh well, I hope things are good with you.

I hope the derm match works for you. What color did you end up getting? My hat is a cotton newsboy hat. I have a black hat like it made out of a warmer material for winter, but this one will be cooler in the summer months. It is taking some getting used to since I never really wore hats before. I always feel I should take it off indoors. Is it bad to go to a restaurant to eat and leave the hat on? I guess I don't know what you're supposed to do because I thought men were supposed to take their hats off. I don't think those rules really apply nowadays anyway. Besides, I'm wearing mine out of neccessity. I should get some baseball caps too. I'm glad you got out this weekend and enjoyed the game. You are right, life is too short.

Hi Mandi, my weekend was pretty uneventful, which can be a good thing. I did buy a hat this weekend. I never really wore hats before except in the winter, but it helps to hide the spots. The shedding hasn't slowed down at all. How was your weekend? I hope you had fun.

From what I know, alopecia areata is supposed to be triggered by something: surgery, stress, illness. Do you have an allergy to shrimp? Perhaps when you got sick it triggered it? I wish I knew. I found my very first bald spot 2 months before my wedding. It was a really small wedding because we wanted it stress free. I was also at a job that was stressful, and put off school for the summer to get married. So I would guess mine was triggered by stress. I don't get that though because I've always had stress in my life and I most likely always will. I never had this happen before. I've been on the pill for many years and it for the most part has always been ortho novum 7/7/7. Sometimes I would get off it for a couple of months for a break, but when I found the bald spot I was taking it consistantly. I stopped taking it this month, but now I'm scared that more hair will come out because of the shift of hormones. I agree that vitamins are important. I've also been taking something called Moducare which has plant sterols and sterolins. It is supposed to balance the immune system. I also take a fish oil pill every day. There is no doubt that we know more about this topic than most doctors. I've been trying to cut back on a lot of processed foods because something is causing my scalp to itch and turn red while I have itchy skin all over like I am having a reaction to something. I don't believe it is normal for alopecia areata. All the derm. told me to do was put a prescription cream on it but it doesn't help.

Hey, just thought I would let you know that my blood test results all came back normal. I had a cbc, tsh, and ana. I guess that is a good thing, but it still doesn't explain why I'm so itchy. Have a good day.

Hey, neighbor. :) I like the OC but I think it's hard to live here sometimes, given how much value people place on looks and stuff. Plus, I'm not much of a sun person so there's that. Besides, if we lived on the East Coast or somewhere that actually gets cold, we'd be able to wear a lot more hats!

How are you doing? I know we have different kinds of hair loss but the effects are the same. Get in touch any time, ok?

Hi Mandi, I was checking to see if everything went okay at the derm. I hope she was helpful. Take care.

Mandi... I'm sorry you are having a hard time. I think it's totally understandable to be upset and scared and mad and sad all at the same time. I don't have bald spots, but I can tell you... the emotional roller coaster is something we all share here, no matter the type of hair loss.

Try to hang in there until Monday... I'm glad you have an appointment and can tell them of the new area. I'm hoping they can tell you something and give you some hope. (I"ll cross my fingers and say a prayer!)

Have a good Sunday!

I'm sorry that you have another bald patch. I know how that sucks. I have too many to count right now. It is good that you can still go get your hair cut. I'm too scared to do it. I actually had my mom cut my hair short because I don't trust anyone else. I cried, not because of cutting my hair short but for the reason I had to do it. I just couldn't deal with long strands of hair coming off my head. Plus, it looks like even more hair in the drain when the hair is longer. I hope your derm. appt. goes well on Monday. I found it was better with a woman derm. Do you think you'll try more injections? My derm. said she can't inject them all, but I have one in the back I would like her to do. So far, it looks like she is more skilled with the shots than my family doctor who did 2 of them months ago. It turns out that he injected the steroids too deep and caused the skin to atrophy, which makes the skin sink down. So now I have crater like depressions on my head in 2 spots. Great, if I do go bald, I'll look like my parents dropped me on my head. Way to go doc. What kinds of vitamins are you taking? I just started taking this stuff called Moducare which they say balances the immune system. I'm also trying to eat better and exercise, not that it is helping my hair any.
