As far as the hair loss is concerned, it's not too good. I'm shedding more than I ever have. But some days it's better than others. In fact, I have an appt. tomorrow with a Holistic doctor in NoVa. She seems pretty knowle...

6 months eh? I'll definitely stick with it. Btw, I just read that you recently got married. Congrats and me too. It's been a little over a year for me however. Your husband seems supportive, which wonderful. Mine is too (tha...

Hey Terp Girl -- no, my endo told me to stay on it. I went to two different endo's and the last one actually wanted to 'add' more drugs. That's when I decided to give up on synthetic drugs (for better or worse). So I...

Hey there - I'm in the arlington/alexandria area. As for hairmax -- I've been using it for about 5 months now. I have been pretty consistent with it - but I've skip a couple days here and there. So, I'm not sure if t...

Hey Amanda - sorry for the delayed reply, but I've been traveling this past week. Anyway, when I first got off Ortho my period was a little off for about a month or so. But when I got off Yasmin I was fine. More than anything, thin...

Hi Amanda - I was on Ortho-tri for only 4 months. As for Spironolactone, I'm not sure how much it has helped my hair. The only 'real' benefit I've seen has been on my skin. It did not grow back any lost hair. Plus, ...

How has your hair loss changed you?: In every way unfortunately. I use to have the most gorgeous hair. After stopping Ortho Tri-Cyclen at age 21...the shedding started. And with my hair loss my confidence started to shed as well. I had no idea what was going on. I was told I had T.E. so for 3 years I didn't do anything. Just hoped it would get back to normal. It didn't. So I got on Spironlactone alone for 3-4 yrs...then added Yasmin in the past 2 yrs. In my opinon, the shedding just got worse. Although, my doctor disagreed and said I should stay on it.

Well, I got off Yasmin just recently - I had too many mood swings and just felt it was making things worse. I've substituted with Rogaine and Hairmax. Adding Biotin and Iron supplements as well. Not sure if this will help, but this is my last hope. I'm trying to stay positive...but it's definitely hard. So if anyone has a positive experience with any of these treatments, I'd love to hear from you...

Hi Traveling Gal - It looks like we're practically neighbors...I live in Pentagon City. I really thought the iron helped me. I stopped shedding for about 2 months and then I started again :-(. I'm off the iron now and trying several other supplements to help some other issues identified but who knows. Have you been to the trichology place in Alexandria? They are really helpful...I just don't know how I feel about the laser treatments. If you haven't gone in for a free consultation, I highly recommend it b/c they gave me some info that has helped and haven't pressured me to have the expensive treatments.

Hi Yasmine!

It's def good you got off them (can't be on them forever). I know I am just prolonging the invevitable... I am just not ready yet and still hoping that by some miracle I just need to give my body a little more time to recover from getting off the pill 2.5 years ago (even tho that was a LONG time ago, sigh*).

I don't take the saw palmetto regularly at all. I'd say once a week if I'm good... So I really can't tell you much on that. I'm sure it couldn't hurt? I try to take the biotin too but I'm not good with that either. I seem to be better at taking my multivitamin, then my turmeric, then calcium, and then everything else afterwards is so irregular.

Let me know how it goes with your hollistic doc and what suggestions they give you.

Yeah...I too feel MUCH saner off the BC pill. It's now coming up to 6 months off it, and I am relieved that I am feeling more like myself again. Clearer thoughts, more energy in general. At least we have that part of ourselves back, you know? As for the hair, who knows... let's keep our fingers crossed for that proverbial light at the end of the tunnel...though, tunnel vision is something awful, too.

Keep me posted on how things go for you!

So how are things going for you? Are you still shedding a lot? Do you think your treatment is working?
I'm going to a holistic doc out at UVA in a couple of weeks. I'll let you know how it goes.

Hey there,
I've been using it for a month. I do see a little bit of regrowth on the hairline. Not a big difference but my doc said it will take AT LEAST 6 months to START seeing regrowth. I would hang in there. Hair is slow......

Hey Yasmine,
I'm also using hairmax, revita shampoo and taking biotin. So far my hair LOOKS thicker but I'm still shedding about the same. I do see some regrowth though.
How long have you been using hairmax? Do you think it's helping? What part of VA are you from? I'm from around Richmond.

hey Yasmine ~ you're right, it's a necessary nightmare to experience, but at least we can get the BC out of our system. Perhaps there is yet hope. As of now, I am unsure about the effectiveness of my supplements...I had started the Vitex in August, and it immediately stabilized my post-pill wacky period, which was good. As for the rest -- the biotin, multi-v, iron, etc. -- who knows? I suppose they aren't hurting, but I don't know if they're helping. I've gotta ride out this awful 'dread shed', and am hoping with all my soul that it tapers down soon.

I have only recently started the EPO and EFA, and they say it would take about two months before anything kicks in. We'll see!

I don't have a whole lot more to shed, hehe. Were your periods off when you first quit the pill? Was hair loss the main lasting side effect?

Hi Yasmine-

Thanks for saying hi. We have very very similiar hairloss stories except you have more years on your belt. How does your hair look now? I need to post pictures up of my hair. It's thin all over the head but my bangs seem to be the thinnest of all. The TE has passed (i went thru it over two years ago) but the regrowth is minimal and very thin in texture. I'm afraid that it will continue to worsen and Ive half given up hope of it being "normal" again. I'm on a "bad" pill for hair, alesse/aviane. I'm not sure if its affecting things but I'm too afraid to switch to something like Yasmine bc it makes things worse for some ppl- like you. Plus I hear you get a really low sex drive which is just strange!! Urgh the stupid pill, I wish I never took it. I feel trapped.

I'm taking biotin and iron on and off. Im not religious about it because I don't really see much differnce.

Did your derm tell you to stay on the pill?
alchimera - 9:51 AM on Oct. 4, 2008  reply | message
hey Yasmine, I just read through your story and can completely relate. I have had more shedding since quitting the BC pill this past May. Did you have any shedding while ON the pill? How long were you taking ortho-Tri?

I hate how one little pill had so much potential to become a wrecking ball!! Hehe... and btw, how is the spiro working? I was on 200mg for three months because I freaked about testosterone levels, but they gave me horrible side effects....
Camil - 9:38 AM on Oct. 4, 2008  reply | message
Hi there!!! So you're a spiro user too, eh? I'm on 200mg/day. So far so good. Within the first month of taking it, I began to notice a dramatic change in my complexion and hair loss overall. About a month ago, though, the shedding went back to its pre-spiro days, although my complexion was still pretty good. Went to see the doc for a follow-up who put my mind at ease. Been on spiro since May of this year. The only major side effects I've noticed have been 1) huuuuge craving for salty foods and 2) light-headedness when I get up too quickly. How's it been working for you?
