How has your hair loss changed you?:
|
5-31-10 Ladies I finally did it, got a super short hair cut last Saturday! It had been almost 2 years since I got a cut (8-18-08). A super cool punk rocker turned hair stylist named Holli Rockitt did it. She was really great about listening to what I needed and was gentle on my head (it took her 45 minutes to comb out the tangles!). My hair was really long and super stringy. I wish I had done this over a year ago like many of you urged me to. I write all this to say if you are thinking about getting a cut, trying going to someone you don't know. My regular stylist for years was the one who noticed my hair loss to begin with in Fall 07 and I had been too embarassed to go back to her ever since. This list has been an incredible source of strength and hope to me. I hope you ladies are doing well, you can conquor the obsession and move on with your life! I still suffer from hair loss but thanks to the spiro and revita my loss has stablized in the last 6 months.I am back to doing things I love (hiking, volunteer work, beading with friends) after almost a year of isolating. I had to get off the list daily to not ruminate but know this list was there for me when all the chips were down. For the new ladies, don't be afraid to talk to the others on the list. I let fear of the unknown paralyze me for too long and meeting women here who taught me how to cope got me out of the self pity and depression.
Wishing you all much love, peace, and happiness,
Kimberly a.k.a. bflygirl
4-30-10 Wow it has been a long time since I have been on. Hair loss has considerably slowed, probably to what is considered "normal." My prior to 2007 long thick has has not come back but I no longer have the obsession about the hair loss which used to rule almost every minute of my life. Thank you to every woman on this list. Your bravery and coping skills taught me how to regain my life. I needed to get off the site to stop obsessing but I will try harder to pay back your kindness by checking in more frequently. I do not considering myself "cured," but I am not in a heavy shedding phase and that makes it easier to cope.
Joy, Peace & Love,
Kimberly
6-22-09 after a month-long absence from the site to get a grip on the obsession and try to act "as if" I didn't have hair loss I came back on-line today to report on the experiment. Conclusion: You all gave me the strength to get back out there and live, but I need the support here and need to share with your joys and sorrows as much as I need you to share in mine. I don't need another experiment to know that we all are in this together but we *can* live our lives with joy and laughter while we cope with hair loss! Peace ~ Kimberly
4-1-09 shedding has slowed in recent months but no noticeable new growth. Despite this I have been better able to cope with the hair loss through this site. I wake up every day and think of the thousands of women all over the world facing this with me, then have the strength to face the day. Today I wore my hair down (no barette, headband or ponytail) for the first time in months just to see if I could do it. While I was not 100% obsession free all day, It felt good to just be me :) Peace ~ Kimberly
10-24-08 worst shedding in weeks after washing hair. Possibly related to stress. I actually dreamt last night I shaved my head in frustration! I'm so glad you all are on this list - thank you for sharing your joys, sorrows, and hair loss tips. You all are some of the bravest women I know!
8-18-08 very self conscious, damaged my self esteem. Three years ago I had beautiful long hair.
