Category: Saddness

I had an unpleasant moment yesterday with my 7 year old when I picked him up from school.  He was sitting with a few other boys his age.  He pointed at me and laughed saying "Ha, Ha, she's almost bald."  I was so stunned, because he's never said anything like that before to me.  I actually thought my hair was looking pretty good these days, I wasn't wearing a wig at the time.  Of course, his friends just stared at me for a moment while I gave him the death stare to shut him up before he continued on.  He likes to make his friends laugh and I think he took advantage of what he thought would be something that would make them all laugh and get him some attention.  It made me so sad that he would risk hurting me.  I'm thankful though that it gave us a teachable moment to talk about walking home.  I would much rather he say something to me than someone else, even though it hurts.  He needs more lessons about being mindful of others feelings and not making fun for his own benefit.  He did say "Mom, it wasn't even true."  which made me feel better about thinking I look okay after all :)
