Hi there, How did your doc appointment go? Was that yesterday? Glad that you are driving again and everything turned out okay. I can understand why you are still shaky after something like this happening. I am doing fine, getting over a cold and cough. Did not feel well at all this week- but am feelig nmuch better now. Happy that the boys are not sick. One is playing with Lego's in the Living room ( where I am at the moment) and the other is in his room playing trains. I work part time off and on from my home office - but do miss getting out of the house and into an office- sometimes. I help my husband these days with his consulting biz, not doing my technical recruiting much any longer- due to hair loss. I use to love to dress up and go to meeting with clients now..Not too excited. rather be in my work out clothes and work from my computer and phone then try to dress how I use to. Sometimes I feel a little down when I think about it but what is is. I can at leastr be gratefulo for what I have and move on from there.

Blessings,

S

Hi Michelle, I'm so glad to hear your doctor appointment went well! I have heard about scalp med and wrote a comment about it before on this blog post: http://www.womenshairlossproject.com/hair-loss/nut
rition-hair-loss-hormones/

I will copy and paste it here:

"Scalp Med… UGHH If I see one more of their cheezy infomericals I’m gonna throw up. Their intro music plays like it’s the opening of the olympic games. Everyone miraculously gets their hair back in what seems like a pretty unrealistic way. They show one lady with practically NO hair and in the after picture she looks like she never lost a hair in her life. hummm… This is yet another example of a company who repackages Minoxidil and in my opinion, rips people off. Their two months supply sells on their website for $159.80 $18.81 shipping and handling for a total of $178.61. You can get a two months supply of Rogaine For Women From drugstore.com for $89.98 shipping. And if you go for the Rite Aid Generic brand you can get two months for $60 shipping. So Scalp med charges 2 1/2 times more than generic minoxidil. Maybe I’m mistaken, but my understanding is minoxidil is minoxidil is minoxidil. The only difference is the label that is slapped on the bottle."

So indeed it does work for some people because the main ingredient in minoxidil, which is the same ingredient in Rogaine.. only they charge a lot more.

Really happy your appointment went well.

All The Best,
~Y

Hi Michelle, keep me updated with what you find out after your appointment on Wed. I wish doctors would be more forthright about there abilities or lack of in treating hair loss. If you don't know then say so, and recommend the patient to a more well versed physician on the subject. But I imagine that would be too much for a doctors ego so they just wing it or dismiss it entirely, even so, there are still good doctors out there who take women's hair loss seriously.

Hi Michelle, its hard for me to say definitively whether or not ortho tricyclen has increased my hair loss any more so than normally would have occurred, or if it has in fact actually helped to slow down the progression. The pill responsible for my hair loss was Loestrin FE. I stopped taking it and approximately 4 months later the endless cycle of my hair loss began. The ortho tricyclen was prescribed to help treat my hair loss along with aldactone.

I definitely think that women react to differently to various pills. Often one pill doesn't cause hair loss in one woman, but does in another. Hormones are so darn tricky. We know our own bodies and have a sense of what is going on, if you suspect that that the pill may be the cause of your hair loss, there is a good chance it is. How long have you been on the pill? Where you on any pill before ortho tricyclen? Most often the problems arise from the change in hormones, going on or off the pill. If hair problems are to arise, the shedding doesn't usually actually occur for 4-6 months after (going on or off). Often times women don't even link up the two together because they look at what is happening "now" and not what changed in their life 6 months ago.

As a matter of personal preference I always prefer taking brand name medication as opposed to generic, not that it would make a difference, just a side note :)

Hello there,

Sorry it took me so long to get back to you. Beach went well, we had a good time being together and playing together. My goodness- sorry to hear about your fender bender. I am glad no one was hurt. Geez, I know how scary it can be. I had someone hit me a few years back glass landed all over my kids in their cars seats, we were rear ended by a huge SUV. My smaller SUV was totaled. After that we decided to get a new volvo for safety. Hope you had a lovely Spring / Easter weekend. I had a good time playing egg hunt with my boys and enjoying a lovely dinner with my family.

Best,

S

Hey, thanks for your message. The doc told me my hair loss is down to stress. So just trying to chill out!! I bought some hair stuff called Nioxin to try and help so I'll give it a try tomorrow! Fingers crossed!!
My wedding is booked for 12th June 2008, I'm getting married in Greece and can't wait. Couldn't be bothered with the fuss here in Scotland! So we are haveing a party when we come home. It would have been really nice to get married at home but we wanted to do something a bit different.
