Tori, Sorry for your pain, but don't give up the treatments may actually help. My grandfather had this years ago. I'm not sure of the treatments that he had but his hair came back in a thick and full as ever and he still has all o...
Kathy, Your hair looks really good. I like the short blond cut. I've had long hair for 32 years so I think short would be a little drastic. I always loved my thick, long hair. Where did you get your wigs? Were they hard to find? I'...
NitaHat, I'm feeling about the same as you when it comes to when? I have a friend who shaved her head and got a couple of wigs. People thought that she had gotten a really cute haircut. Then she let her hair grow out for awhile because...
Ellie, Just wanted to say Hi! I've been going back and forth about how to slow down my hair loss. I'm afraid a new treatment will send it into a spin. How are your treatments working? I know how you feel when you say there's ...
Hey, Jodie nice to have a new friend. i love your way of looking at things. I feel like that most of the time. I spend a lot of time outdoors and when I'm in the garden or hiking on some trail in the mountains i don't even think a...
I am less confident. My hair loss started at age 23 when I had a hysterectomy. However, I believe a HRT replacement change sped up the process and changed pattern of hair loss. I'm extremely confused about causes and treatments.
About Me
About Me:
I'm a people person. I love to get in the middle of things and help people out in what ever way I can. I really love the outdoors ( hiking, my favorite). I am trying not to let this hair loss thing slow me down. I want to be able to say that it's really at the bottom of my list of priorites, but it's hard not to lose some of your identity along with the hair.
Hi Sis -- Thanks for the compliment! Through trial and error (and lots of $$) I have finally ended up with a human hair wig and I love it. I did a blog on tips for choosing wigs that explores the pros and cons of synthetic and human hair. Bottom line... short hair is great in synthetic -- easy to take care of, can be inexpensive. But, for long hair, human hair is the only way to go. It's all the benefits of a wig without the benefits of a wig because it's natural. The big upside to human hair vs. synthetic for long hair is that the human hair doesn't tangle and get all frayed at the ends like synthetic. Trust me... I've tried several and the human hair one is worth the $$. We have a wig salon (or 3) in San Antonio -- find one with a large selection even if you have to travel to another city and plan to spend a few hours. Try on every single one if you need to until you find "the one" -- you'll know because you'll suddenly feel fabulous and beautiful again!! Do experiment with other colors. I've been a blond my whole life, but am currently red and I get so many compliments! Good luck!!
Sorry it took so long to get back to you. I just now checked back in. So how are those bunnie syou were talking about? I hope that snake didn't get it. We have been having interesting weather here, it was first sunny and then a day later cloudy, rainy and cold. I guess that is Spring. ;o)
Wanted to answer you question about if I had an itchy or buring scalp. Sometimes I feel an itchy scalp during a shed. I also noticed more buring sensation since I started using Rogaine and I swear it causes more dry scalp and flaking. It can be really confusing to know what is happening. Female Pattern Hairloss doesn't run in my family either, the only one who had some hair loss is my grandpa and 1/2 brother. So, why is my twin and I having hair thinning. Extremely difficult to take in and some days I feel okay about it and other days I am extremely horrified and feel very down. I think I am still trying to accept that this is happening to me. I hope you can get answers to your questions about your hair loss and I am so sorry that this is happening to you. feel free to stay in touch.
Hey, Nice to meet you. Haven't checked things out in awhile. Have you experienced itching of the scalp? Almost a burning sensation? I just don't believe that I have female pattern baldness. It doesn't run in my family. I believe it's either immune system related ( I acquired several skin conditions after working in Cameron, Louisiana, after Hurricane Rita in winter of 2006. Or it could be hormone related. I had a premature hysterectomy (at 23 yrs of age).Believe it or not I had a second doctor agree ( a woman ). I still feel she should have leaned the other way with the VERDICT!!!. My hair got thin in the front risht at hair line but I retained thickness everywhere else. Now 25 years later it suddenly is flying off my head and all these skin conditons are cropping up. I don't know who to go to next. Supposedly all my blood work is normal, but normal to who? Talk at ya soon. ( Louisianian for Bye)
Hey sisgoldenhair, Yes, I had read that Nizoral can increase shedding initially. I started using it specifically after a shedding phase had slowed down. I think I may have had a slight increase in shedding in the begging, but that seems to have slowed also. I can't say whether it was related to the Nizoral or just my normal shed.
My hair loss began mostly on the top and along my part 20 years ago. It has only been in the last couple of years that it has become pretty diffuse all over my head, with the worst of it still being across the top of my scalp. As curly as my hair is it makes it difficult to see the loss on the sides because the curl makes it look "poofy" there. I guess I probably notice the loss on the sides more than other people do because I was so accustomed to having such thick hair.
There should be a one hour time difference between us. Sometimes I get the chance to log in while I am at work, but cannot chat from these computers. If you happen across me when I am online at home I would love to chat. Blessings, Dottie
Hi sisgoldenhair, Rogaine had definitely increase shedding for the first couple months. I am pasting a comment I had written on the women's hair loss project blog, I wrote about it in regards to aldactone, but it applies the same logic applies to Rogaine as well " The truth is every effective hair loss treatment can cause you to shed and depending on who you ask every hair loss treatment will have its proponents and opponents as well. It really depends on the person, for myself, I did experience increased shedding upon beginning Aldactone (brand name of spironolactone) but it did subside after a few months. The general consensus in the hair loss world is that if a treatment causes you to shed then it means it is working, but at the same time the absence of shedding in not an indication that it isn’t working. It is my understanding that it all depends at what point you are catching the hair cycle when you begin the medication. If your hair is on the uptake and a lot of the hair follicles are going into an anagen phase then there is a good chance that the medication will just help improve that process, however, if you are in a catagen or active telogen phase it could expedite that as well and increase shedding."
I also addressed the concern of Rogaine increasing shedding here: http://www.womenshairlossproject.com/hair-loss/rog aine-shedding-help/
sisgoldenhair, i am going thru a really bad shedding and itching phase again. it happend every 8,6,4 now 2 months. started in the front now working its way back. I do feel like I am losing more than ever. Since easter I have lost another 10% which is too much do to how thin it is now! I am using extreme hair therapy from the Women & mens hair club. I feel like the monoxidil is making me lose more hair. I do not know why it would do such a thing but that is what I am thinking. I am so self conscious and have really lost my confidence. jackie
Hey sisgoldenhair, There are quite a few hair replacement systems (toppers) that you might want to look into. I noticed that you live kinda smack between Houston and New Orleans... maybe traveling to a larger city to prepare for your son's special day might be an option?
There is one system that a few people here have tried called Reprieve Hair. I think the thing about this system that attracts me most is that you don't have to shave off the hair on the top of your scalp to have it bonded on (like with other systems) because they use your remaining hair to weave in and anchor the hairpiece down. The photos on their website make the results look very natural. I know that the end product always depends on the hairdresser who applies it though.
I know that growing a thick skin is a very long and sometimes painful process. I have had people make comments that I know they perceived as normal, friendly conversation that were actually very hurtful to me. I always have to remind myself that people who have full heads of hair really have no clue how devastating this is... I know because I remember what I was like when I had a full head of hair. Hang in there. Dottie
