Hi Surreymom3! I have to say, I had a good laugh! I read your comment that you lost your underarm, leg, pubic hair after being on Spiro... $h!t! I'd love some of That!!!! I've been paying people to wax my hairy legs !!! I have this running joke I say: My mom is 82 years old. She has black hair on her head, big boobs and no body hair... I have no boobs and hair everywhere except on my head!!!! :-)

I know, Anne. It's so hard to know who to believe. I think I've figured it out, then somebody else comes along with another theory. Bummer that more hair came out. So aggravating. I'm starting to think I should just work on accepting the new me -- ya know, the one without the great hair I used to have....Only one more thing to try and that's Rogaine. After that, I'm done with all of this. (Of course, I say that today; tomorrow could be an entirely different story!!!) I admire your willpower. I'm not sure I could do it. Please keep me posted.
Take care,
Lisa

Wow, Anne. Great news that the shedding has slowed! That's awesome. So if the issue is insulin, which leads to higher testosterone levels, would spiro help that? My free testosterone has been going down but my hair loss continues. Ugh. I got 5 inches chopped off on Saturday and I think it was the right thing to do. I wish I could say the meds are helping but so far, nothing. I'm "feeling" OK (except for the leg cramps from the spiro) but nothing is changing. Ugh. I too love sweets. I've cut sugar out of my coffee and stuff but I don't know if I could give it up entirely... (I would if I knew for certain doing that would help but right now, I feel l need a boost, you know?) You obvisouly have much more willpower than I do! Weird about the Yas (Yaz?). Which one are you going to switch to? Take care, Lisa

Thanks for telling me what Sprionolacotne is. I was also wondering whether you;ve seen an increase of hair falling while using it? Someone told me any kind of prescription meds and even some over the counters can contribute to general hair loss.

Anne, how are things going? Have you thought any more about the insulin connection? I'm so curious about that, especially since one doc mentioned it to me off at an event I was attending. (It was the opening of a new integrative medical clinic; I kind of feel like I got some free advice!) About time! Hope you're doing well. -- Lisa

Hi there, I was wondering if you could tell me what Sprionolacotne is and if it has helped you?
Misty - 1:48 PM on Jul. 6, 2008  reply | message
I did the rogaine 5% twice daily. I'm not using it now... I only did it for 6 weeks or so and my GYN suggested that I get my stress under control to see if that helped anything at all. (I was getting really overwhelmed with everything) I knew that 6 weeks wasn't long enough for results, so I thought I would give the anti-anxiety med some time to kick in.

I didn't use the Spiro for more than a week... then the hives started. Like I said, now I don't think it was the spiro at all... I'm still getting hives randomly, I can't place them with anything at all! So frustrating!

Hi Anne, how long have you been on the Rogaine and Spiro? That is exactly what I was told to do, but I started getting hives from something. We were assuming it was the spiro, since it Rogaine is minimally absorbed. So, I stopped. I have still had hives several times since then, so I really don't think it was the spiro after all. I was lucky to find a derm. that specializes in hair loss... who prescribed that for you?

It seems that there are no clear cut answers when it comes to this? I am trying to work on my stress level and my coping abilities. This hair loss crap has pushed me over the edge!

Pestering me? Are you kidding? We're practically the same person when it comes to this issue. Scary, really. First, LOVE the photo of your little girl. What a cutie pie!! I have to run to the library pretty soon but I'd love to talk to you about all of this in more detail. Like you, I've always been thin. I've ALWAYS craved sugar. And I got pregnant on our first try. Redmond never mentioned anything about that drug at all. I have to say that I am concerned that the stupid spiro, propecia and bcp aren't gonna do anything for me. In his book, Redmond said taking spiro alone was almost as effective and I was at 150 for six months and NOTHING. For the past week or so, my hair loss has been worse! It's like it's speeding up. I would like to talk to you more about all of this stuff. I agree we share a lot of common characteristics. I'll check back in later. Take care, Lisa
