Go to the derm. and im not sure about the bcp or rogaine... remember to breathe! I know this sucks, we all do. But you're not alone and we are here for you.
Thank you Tangie. I found this site and think it is really a great idea. I did start working last year, right around the time the hair loss began. I graduated college and started working right away as an accountant, and it is a pretty high stress environment, lots of deadlines sometimes long hours etc. But I wasn't sure if that would be enough of a stressor to cause hair loss?
I see it looks like your in the same type of situation as me, not sure what's really going on with yours. Good luck and I will try to be proactive also! Thanks for the comment.
Tangie, you are on the right track. I do believe hormones have a big part in this. Is there an endocrinologist you can see? Read The Hormonally Vulnerable Woman by Geoffrey Redmond. I'm on that regimen. Unfor, it's not working for me, but I think it works for some. He says hormones are a HUGE part of this. Coincidence that so many of us begin losing our hair in our mid to late 30s? I don't think so. Good luck. Keep me posted. Those doctors sound like complete morons. When my doctor first dismissed me, I printed out the hair loss page from WebMD and took it in. He ended up doing many of those tests.
Hi Tangie, Well, I don't really know of a hair loss expert in the KC area. Based on my insurance network and how fast I could get into a derm, I went to the Dermatology and Skin Cancer Center in Leawood and saw Dr. Angel. She was better than the other derm I had seen in Kansas City. She ordered the full panel of tests with just 1 appointment and called me with results and gave me some suggestions. I did go in with a lot of information from this site on what I should ask for and various treatment options outside of just rogaine. Here is the website:

She did refer me to an endocrinologist before she would give me any medications. The one I went to was WORTHLESS, so I would not refer him. I basically begged for a spiro script and he finally caved in and gave it to me. I go back and see him in October for a follow up. I may end up going back to Dr. Angel to continue treatment as I think she has more knowledge on female hair loss treatment options and just nice in general! Hope that helps, wish I had better referals for you. Let me know how things go :)
Tangie... I love the new profile photo! Your hair looks great - and you can see just how much you love that little boy! That's what matters in life, ya know!!
I totally think that my hair loss is a hormone thing... Now, what started it, how to stop it, what the reason is, Not so sure about all of that, but I still think it is hormones. Babies and bcp - stress doesn't help at all what so ever!!!
Hope you have a good weekend... we just went to see the Wiggles today, and I am all wiggled out!
Hi Tangie, let me know if you try the Rogaine. I haven't gotten to the point where I want to do it. I am actually thinking I am going to get a wig first. My hair loss has not slowed down and any way I wear my hair, you can see the scalp. So, I think I would like to have a wig to ease my transition. This way, I won't have to shop for the wig when I have no hair left. It will be like my security blanket. The few spikes of new hair that are growing in I'm grateful for, but they can't replace the masses of hair that comes out every day.
I stumbled across your profile, and was wondering how you are treating the itchy scalp. Does it itch all over, or only in certain places? Mine is flaky and irritated in different places all around my head! :( It makes me question how thin my scalp must be by now...
Hey Tangie... is your scalp still really itchy? I was reading somewhere the other night about using apple cidar vinegar on your scalp (or other areas that are itchy) I think it said to dilute it in water and pour it on the area... then rinse off.
I don't know if it will work, but I don't think it would hurt anything...
Vent away... I'm sure I'll return the favor one day. It's so hard not knowing what to do. It's very depressing that so many people are on medicines and treatment without much success. That's what bothers me so much.
I would be concerned about the sore scalp as well. It's one thing to deal with hair loss and thinning, but another to actually be in pain. Did you try anything topical on it.? I would definitely steer clear of the Rogaine since you are having scalp issues.
My daughter starts school this fall also... I never thought I would be one of those mom's - but I AM> I am so worried about her going off by her little self... she's itty bitty tiny! She's feisty though... Im sure she can hold her own... it's just hard to let her go. (I sound like she is starting college)
Hang in there.. do you have any appts. coming up to see where the pain is coming from? I wish you the best... I love this site that we can say things and know that we all get it!!
Hi Tangie... how are you? I enjoyed the chat the other night, even if my husband did laugh at me. I have so little time to do anything these days... I'll take what adult interaction I can get. Evan if it is online in an organized chat! :o)
How old is your little guy? Will he start school this year?
