It led me to design the Beaubeau scarf for other women who were dealing with medical hair loss. Serving other women with similar conditions or worse has helped me to be grateful for all I have and focus less on what I don't have - including hair.

About Me:
|
Up until 6 years ago, I was living a normal life! One day a disease entered my life that changed my world: Alopecia Universalis. Losing one's hair is an emotional adjustment for which there is no preparation. Facing our appearance driven culture as a bald woman was a force to be dealt with. My first reaction to my hair loss was total retreat from EVERYTHING! After a long period of adjustment, I slowly began an attempt at recapturing my old self. I was a very active, athletic person - wigs were not going to suit my lifestyle. I explored the world of head wear for women without hair and was shocked by the what was offered. The world of fashion and head coverings for the hairless were non-existent. I began to design a scarf that would give me back my freedom and at the same time make a fashion statement. Thus the birth of "the beaubeau": Beautiful Scarves for Beautiful Heads. This journey has been most rewarding. I receive letters and emails from women all over the world thanking me for my scarves - thanking me for recognizing that bald women want to be fashionable too! I often wonder what I would be doing if Alopecia had not entered my life. Alopecia handed me the opportunity to help other women deal with hair loss in a dignified and stylish manner.
Also, I am from 3 generations of breast cancer survivors. I am a pre-vivor - carries the BRCA2 gene and elected to have prophylactic surgery.

thebeaubeau posted a comment on thebeaubeau's profile:Hi mmg12500, I was 49-50 when I first lost my hair. I think in most respects, it's not as hard on us as say a 17-yr-old young woman, but that's not to say it's easy. I was more mature, had grown kids, a life, a career. I initially found myself ...
