Hi Gals of The Women's Hair Loss Project:

I updated the site on 12/12/08 and after doing so received some feedback from some users that they were encountering errors. This post isn't to address all the "How-To's" of the new site, but to address and problems you may be having using the network. Some women have reported receiving errors while trying to view profile pages. Usually the errors are occurring for Windows XP Internet Explorer users and occasionally Safari users.  I have no solutions to this problem at the moment. The only solution I know will solve the issue is to download, install and use the FIreFox browser, it works on both PC and Mac computers.

If you are having issues please take a few moments to download FireFox: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/

Another issue that I have heard of is that for some women the profile pages are appearing all scattered across the screen. Hummm not good :) They SHOULD NOT look that way, everything *should* be neatly tabbed out separating the profile, comments, blogs, and albums. I took some screen shots (see below) of what everything is suppose to look like so that we are all on the same page and you don't think my idea of a better site would be to totally mess up the profile pages and spread the words out all over the screen.

How To Know If You Are Having Problems

1. You receive any "operation aborted" errors
2.  The calendar is not appearing on the profile pages
3.  On the main page of the network, the headers are missing. The titles that say "Recently Logged In" and "Newest Members" etc.
4.  You try to click on the new "wall-to-wall" button that appears next to user comments on the profiles and you get a popup window with nothing on it, or worse an error.
5. The profiles are all screwy and the words are spread out across the screen.

The women who have had these problems have successfully alleviated these issues by downloading and installing FireFox: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/
------------------------------------------
Please NOTE: You cannot simply just download the program on the link and then resume your normal Internet Explorer use.  You must install and USE the FireFox browser. It is a totally different browser than Internet Explorer. I mention this because a couple women thought they only had to download the program and that would fix the issue. If you downloaded it and installed FireFox you will see the words "FireFox" in the very top of your browser. If you are on Internet Explorer it will say... Internet Explorer.  You won't see that on my screenshots because I am on a Mac, but I tested it on a PC and you will see the name of your browser at the top of your browser. :)

How To Download/ Install/ Use FireFox:

Step 1: Log Out of The Women's Hair Loss Project
Step 2: Download FireFox Here: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/ it will ask you if you want to "RUN" or "SAVE" the file.. SELECT: RUN follow the prompts through you may have to check a box that says you agree to all the standard terms blah blah and continue til it is installed.
Step 3: CLOSE the Internet Explorer Browser the one you used to actually download firefox. Quit out of it.
Step 4: Locate FireFox on your computer there *should* be a new icon on your desktop that looks like a globe with an orange fox around it. Double click that to Launch the NEW browser. The first page you see will be a "FireFox Start Page" if you see this you are on the RIGHT browser!

I had posted this on the main site last Sept.07 ( http://www.womenshairlossproject.com/hair-loss/i-try-a-poem-i-wrote-172006/ ) so it may be a repeat for some of you gals that have been following the site since then :)

I try not to run away from who I am, or to compare myself to who I was
I try to look forward
I try to embrace my existence and to be thankful for all I have
I try to realize that all I have today exists in part because of all the sadness and
all the pain and suffering I have endured
I try to see the good in that.
I try to think who would I be if not for who I am today.
I try to see the light.
I try and talk to god.
I try to maintain hope and faith and an unbridled belief that things will resolve and then I hope a little more and pray that is enough
I try not to weaken although each day I die inside
and although I feel like I cannot go on
I will, because
I try not to run away from who I am, or compare myself to who I was
I try to look forward.

Just Posted On The Women's Hair Loss Project:

Hi, I’m a 19 year old girl who has suffered major hair thinning. I’ve just discovered about this community/project a few days ago. Uptil now, this seems to be probably the most resourceful place I’ve seen.

I’ve been pretty desperate for answers.

As a child, my hair was extremely thick. However, as I grew up, my hair become progressively thinner. Two years go, I went on an unhealthy diet and I started to really notice that my hair was extremely thin (also, my hair was falling out like crazy). I thought that it was due to the fact that I didn’t get enough vitamins, so I started to eat healthily again. Unfortunately or maybe fortunately, my hair only stopped shedding like crazy, but no new hair grew back to replace those I lost.

It has been 2 years, and my hair is still quite thin. Most people can’t see it, but I definitely can - especially when my hair is greasy or when I tie it in a ponytail (you can see my scalp very clearly).

I’ve read as much as I could on women hair loss, and nothing seems to really fit my symptoms. I took a blood test and it showed that my levels were perfectly fine.

After reading as much as I could, there were really only 2 diseases that sort of fit my simptoms.

So I just read a story on The Bald Truth website that sparked a touchy nerve for myself. The guy wrote he had “hair envy.” Oh my, how I can very much relate. I find I’ve lost countless seconds, minutes and hours of my life lusting after other women’s hair. If I ever witness a crime, I won’t be able to offer much other than a complete description of every hair follicle, of each woman who was in the room. Color, length, density, soft, dry… whatever, you name and I’ve taken note of it. I am frequently absent from conversations of the company I am around because I’m too busy having wandering eyes for women’s hair. In the past it wasn’t uncommon for an entire day to be ruined because I saw what appeared to be a 90 year old woman with crazy, rich, silver, thick hair that could surely land her smack right in the middle of a Pantene commercial. How unfair! I started losing my hair at 21 and she STILL has ALL her hair... [ Continue Reading]

Two days ago a woman named Karen wrote a comment of The Women's Hair Loss Project blog. She wrote:

"2 weeks ago, my brother shot himself because he lived a tortured existence worrying about his hair loss. I know now that he must have had body dysmophic disorder. We are still grieving harshly. So with kindness I say to you who are suffering, be sure first of all that you really have hair loss and are not dealing with a mis-perception about your hair. Secondly, a person’s worth and value have nothing to do with hair. You are precious and your hair or lack of it has nothing to do with how priceless, unique and important you are. Third, my heart goes out to anyone who has to feel so bad. I ache for you because I know it is very hard to deal with. And finally, I saw a young woman on tv recently who was totally bald. I think she shaved her head on purpose. She was wearing loop earrings and nicely made up and she looked funky, cool, edgy and totally gorgeous. With no hair at all. And you are beautiful too! To you brave and beautiful people I say, enjoy life and to hell with anyone who doesn’t like the way you look. They aren’t perfect themselves"

I feel a tremendous sadness for Karen and her family and that her brother was so tortured by his hair loss.
